FAQ
Got questions?
Beautiful — asking questions is a sovereign act.
Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common curiosities about Sovereign Self Mental Health, our approach, and how you can begin your own journey toward healing, freedom, and self-trust.
If you don't see your question here, reach out — we love connecting with brave souls walking their own path.
What makes Sovereign Self different from traditional therapy?
At Sovereign Self Mental Health, we don't believe healing is about returning to a system that asked you to disconnect from yourself in the first place. Traditional therapy often focuses on managing symptoms, diagnosing disorders, and fitting you back into societal expectations.
Here, we focus on empowerment, deep inner healing, and self-trust. We offer a new model — one that invites you to reclaim your wholeness, your freedom, and your own way forward. You’re not a diagnosis here. You’re a sovereign being in the process of becoming.
Can I work with Sovereign Self if I'm currently seeing another therapist?
Yes and no. If you are in therapy with a therapist outside of Sovereign Self you do still have access to our Self-Therapy Tier or Short-term Therapy Tier. If you are doing focused Short-term Therapy with a Sovereign Self Therapist, we will ask for a Release of Information form for your other Therapist as we will want to collaborate with them. If you are in Long-term Therapy with a Sovereign Self Therapist, we ask that you do not see another Therapist as it would be a conflict of interest. We do offer Waitlist Therapy Sessions. These sessions are designed for those on a waitlist with another Therapist and are designed with the intention that the client will eventually move to the other Therapist. Clients must be referred to Waitlist Sessions from another Therapist or Mental Health Agency.
Is this a “spiritual” therapy practice?
Sovereign Self Mental Health honors both science and spirit. We use evidence-based therapeutic practices, but we also recognize the importance of intuition, soul connection, energy, and holistic healing. You are welcome here whether you identify as deeply spiritual, purely practical, or somewhere in between. The only thing we require is a willingness to honor your whole self — mind, body, and spirit.
Healing isn’t just clinical here. It’s sacred.
How do I know which tier of service is right for me? Can I move between tiers if my needs change?
During your intake process, we help you choose the right path. However, below is a brief desciption of the tiers.
Choosing your tier is about honoring where you are on your healing journey right now.
-
If you feel ready to take full ownership of your growth and want tools to guide yourself, the Self-Therapy path may be right for you.
-
If you know you want focused guidance around a specific issue or skill, Short-Term Therapy offers structure and momentum.
-
If you’re ready for deep, foundational transformation, Long-Term Therapy provides the space for lasting, root-level healing.
You don't have to have it all figured out — part of our intake process is helping you choose the path that fits your needs best. We also have a fun quiz to take to help guide you.
You may move between tiers as your needs change. Please discuss this with your Therapist- especially if you are participating in Short-Term Therapy.
Are sessions virtual, in-person, or both?
We are currently providing telehealth in Colorado and New Mexico. We also offer in-person sessions in Albuquerque New Mexico if this is something that interests you. We are hoping to expand our office locations and in-person services in the future.
What kind of therapy techniques or models do you use? Do you offer trauma-informed care?
Yes we offer trauma-informed services. Every service at Sovereign Self Mental Health, LLC is grounded in trauma-informed care.
We understand that trauma impacts the nervous system, beliefs, and sense of self. You will always be met with compassion, consent, choice, and safety in our work together. Healing isn't about pushing harder — it’s about creating the conditions where your system can feel safe enough to expand again.
